The Big Basics Book of Windows 95
Published in Paperback by Que (August, 1995)
Average review score:

This book is great for teaching a Windows 95 Class.I purchased this book to teach my Windows 95 class. I taught a class before with a different book and nobody in the class payed much attention. The first class I taught with this book everyone was excited. They looked through the book and they were ready to learn. I purchased two other books on Windows 95 and neither of them stood up to The Big Basics. I really enjoy using this book because of the Guided Tours it has. It lets everyone follow along without being lost. And when they take the book with them they will have a great study guide for home.
Excellent for the beginnerAn excellent book for both the beginner and the experienced computer user. As a teacher using this book in the classroom, I found that the numerous illustrations combined with the clear step by step directions easily walked my students through the workings of Windows 95. I would call this book a definate must have for any computer user's library.
Excellent, user-friendly book for beginners.I teach Windows 95 at our college as well as consult with businesses. I recommend this book often to clients and students. It is one of the best manuals I've seen on Windows 95. It is not-threatening.

The Embrace (Prose Series 55)

A MUST READ for First Generation LithuaniansI absolutely loved this book! In 150, fast moving, well-written pages Irena Guilford manages to capture the first generation Lithuanian experience PERFECTLY. She not only demonstrates a profound understanding of the common guilt and responsibility that Lithuanian exiles felt, and still feel, for their homeland and the loved ones left behind, (and for the "true" or "new" Lithuanians who have come to the America's, post 1990, with their feelings of resentment at having been left behind the Soviet curtain to suffer, both physically and economically)but for her generation, my generation, caught between these two worlds. Belonging to both -- to neither. Anyone who grew up first generation Lithuanian, will think that this jewel was written specifically about them!

Guilford Courthouse: North Carolina
Published in Paperback by DaCapo Press (24 December, 2002)
Average review score:

Fascinating Focused TreatmentAs a long time fan of the American Revolution, I happily purchased this title. I was pleasantly surprised. Although it is not a long book, it is very tightly focused on the leading participants, Greene and Cornwallis, as they head toward their monumental battle at Guilford Courthouse.
The background and information provided on the men, strategies, backgrounds, and development of the campaign is outstanding, as are the maps, which are the best I have ever seen on this battle. The writing is also outstanding--very flowing and poetic, and yet scholarly, complex, and fast-paced. The author has a literary "hook" at the beginning and end of every chapter. Indeed, the begins with Greene surveying the field at Guilford and deploying his men--and then goes back in time and marches the armies in place.
Highly recommended.

The Road to Guilford Courthouse: The American Revolution in the Carolinas

A Must-Read for any Student of the RevolutionThis was one of the most enjoyable, and educational, books I've read on the American Revolution in a great while. Sadly, it highlights the fact that most Americans know very little outside of Valley Forge and the Battle of Bunker Hill. By covering, in-depth, the savage civil war that raged in the Carolinas the author has done us all a great service. The book is well-written, with excellent footnotes and sources listed. It is also very readable, reading at times almost like a novel. I've recommended this book to others and will continue to do so - it's an excellent read!
A Must ReadThe book provides an excellent look into the political, cultural and military perspectives of the Revolutionary War campaign in the south. It also gives due credit to General Nathaniel Greene, one of the most overlooked and underappreciated commanding generals of the revolution. If you only read one book on the southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War it should be this one. It flows easily and interestingly. If it has a weakeness it is the lack of detail on the march of both armies and Greene's deception from the initial encampment near Guilford Courthouse to the return for the battle. But then, both Cornwallis'and Greene's armies crossed over my property en route back to Guilford Courthouse and I have intensely studied the details of their routes and actions. So, I probably tend to be a bit overly critical in this regard.
Excellent coverage of the American Revolution in the SouthThe ability of the author to put the characters and events in a political, cultural, and historical context made this a fascinating book to read. The detailed look at the battlefields and the passions that motivated both sides is some of the best historical writing I've come across on the Revolutionary War. I wish the author would bring his discerning eye to the Philadelphia campaign and the battles of Germantown and Brandywine.

Atlas of Rock-Forming Minerals in Thin Section
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (July, 1980)
Average review score:

great bookI am Earth Sciences student too. This book is really great for petrology. As I am 1st year student and don't know mineral well so this book give me a guide to classify those minerals.
Superb color photographsI have taken a course in Optical Mineralogy and Petrography, and although the text used was Nesse, I believe that this Atlas was adjunct to the course. Although I do not have a petrographic microscope, I recently saw this title in a used book shop near a college town, and could not resist buying it (for about $6 I think). What a bargain. However, such an occurrence is rare indeed.
Clear, informative and reader friendly. Good book !Hi, I'm a Chinese and living in Hong Kong. I studied in Earth Sciences for the second year. To me, this book safe me from the lost world in petrology. The colourful, sharp photos in the book illustrated what you'll see under microscope and greatly raise my interest. And, clear notes about the minerals or rocks you looking at have been given. They can give reader both visual and wordful memories. Some other books of this author are also good. They kept the good quality in expressing the information. This book especially good for starter in petrology.

Netscape Communicator 4: 6 In 1 (6-In-1 Series)
Published in Paperback by Que (July, 1997)

great informationIf you want in depth information about Netscape, here it is. I was looking for detailed directions and an explanation for Netscape Composer set up for new web pages and this book was just what I needed. Most of the extras that come with the Netscape browser you may never need or want to use, but if you do the directions for each component including Navigator, Netcaster, Messenger, Collabra, Conference and Composer are covered in "Netscape communicator 4 6 in 1" I found it as easy as a dummies book but more informative in a easy to follow format with a content layout that makes it easy to find what your looking for. Very helpful!
